OFF-LABELNot in the FDA label for this product
Conjunctival redness of allergic conjunctivitis
1 drop in each eye QD, the labeled regimen; the trial gave a single drop before each challenge
RCT · n=202 · CAC model
Phase 3 multicenter double-masked randomized CAC trial (N=202) of a single drop against vehicle and against olopatadine 0.2%: conjunctival redness scores were lower than vehicle at onset of action (P<0.001) and at the 16-hour (P<0.01) and 24-hour (P<0.05) challenges, and lower than olopatadine 0.2% at 24 hours (P<0.05). The OTC Use statement claims relief of itch only, so redness is an unlabeled endpoint.
Do not use this product if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy, if you are sensitive to any ingredient in this product, or to treat contact lens related irritation.
Available Forms
Ophthalmic solution, 0.5 mL bottle, 2.5 mL bottle, two bottle and three bottle 2.5 mL cartons, 0.7% (7 mg/mL)
Mechanism of Action
Selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist that also stabilizes mast cells, cutting both the response to histamine already released and further degranulation. Human mast cell culture shows reduced histamine and TNF-alpha release, and conjunctival allergen challenge shows lower tear histamine.
