Secondarily infected traumatic skin lesions caused by S. aureus or S. pyogenes

Contraindications
Mupirocin cream is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mupirocin or any of the excipients of mupirocin cream.

Mechanism of Action
Mupirocin is an RNA synthetase inhibitor antibacterial.
Warnings & Precautions
Not for ophthalmic use, nor for intranasal use of the cream formulation.
Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, urticaria and generalised rash, have been reported.
Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea has been reported with almost all antibacterials.
If a sensitisation or severe local irritation occurs, stop and institute other therapy.
Common Side Effects
The most frequent adverse reactions (at least 1%) were headache, rash, and nausea.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Systemic absorption after topical use is minimal; available data are insufficient to identify a drug-associated risk.
Lactation: Minimal systemic absorption after topical use; do not apply to the breast until the infant has finished feeding.
Pediatric Use
The safety and effectiveness of mupirocin cream have been established in the age-groups 3 months to 16 years. Use of mupirocin cream in these age-groups is supported by evidence from adequate and well‑controlled trials of mupirocin cream in adults with additional data from 93 pediatric subjects studied as part of the pivotal.
