Contraindications
Ocular or periocular infections Glaucoma Torn or ruptured posterior lens capsule Hypersensitivity.

Mechanism of Action
Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, has been shown to suppress inflammation by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines resulting in decreased edema, fibrin deposition, capillary leakage and migration of inflammatory cells.
Warnings & Precautions
Intravitreal injection carries a risk of endophthalmitis, eye inflammation, increased intraocular pressure and retinal detachment; monitor after injection.
Corticosteroids may cause posterior subcapsular cataract, raised intraocular pressure and glaucoma, and may worsen an existing infection.
The implant may migrate into the anterior chamber in eyes with an absent or torn posterior capsule.
Do not use in active or suspected ocular or periocular infection.
Common Side Effects
the most common adverse reactions reported by 20-70% of patients were cataract, increased intraocular pressure and conjunctival hemorrhage.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Topical ocular dexamethasone in mice and rabbits during organogenesis produced fetal harm.
Lactation: Systemically administered corticosteroids appear in human milk; the amount after an intravitreal implant is likely to be undetectable.
Pediatric Use
Safety and effectiveness of OZURDEX in pediatric patients have not been established.
